For readers who are discovering The Whimsical Scriptorium for the first time, how would you describe the world you are creating?
First of all, thank you so much for this interview. I truly appreciate it, and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to share the world of The Whimsical Scriptorium.
To me, this world feels like a soft escape from the noise of everyday life. A quiet little place where imagination, storytelling and creativity can exist more freely.
I wanted to create something comforting and atmospheric, where people who feel deeply can slow down, dream and reconnect with their creativity in a gentle and meaningful way.
The name The Whimsical Scriptorium feels very literary and mysterious. Where did it come from, and what does it mean to you personally?
The name came from my lifelong love of books, libraries, storytelling, and the feeling of discovering hidden worlds between the pages of a book.
'Whimsical' represents imagination, curiosity, and the sense of wonder that has always inspired me creatively. 'Scriptorium' is a reference to the old rooms where manuscripts were carefully written and preserved, which felt like the perfect symbol for a place dedicated to stories, creativity, and beautiful details.
The Whimsical Scriptorium is more than a shop name. It feels like a small magical library of curiosities — a place where imagination, art and storytelling come together and where every collection invites someone into a different world.
Your work often carries a dark academia, gothic and bookish atmosphere. What first drew you toward that kind of aesthetic?
What attracts me most is the atmosphere. Dark academia and gothic aesthetics often combine beauty, mystery, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for knowledge and imagination. They feel nostalgic and comforting at the same time.
As a neurodivergent person, I've often found comfort in spaces that feel calm, imaginative, and full of detail. Those elements continue to inspire almost everything I create today. Dark academia and gothic aesthetics gave me exactly that feeling — like stepping into a story and leaving the noise of everyday life behind for a while.
If one of your designs could have a soundtrack, what kind of music would play in the background?
It would probably be a blend of dark piano melodies, soft strings, distant choirs, gentle rain, crackling fireplaces, and the sound of pages turning in an old library.
Actually, I love music that feels cinematic and immersive — the kind that makes you feel as though you've stepped into another world. The soundtrack would be mysterious and atmospheric, but also comforting, like a quiet evening spent reading by candlelight while a storm passes outside. I love music that tells a story without words, because that's exactly what I hope my artwork does too.
In fact, that idea is what inspired me to create the Midnight Library Café collection. I wanted to add another dimension to my printables and make the experience feel even more immersive. Each themed table includes not only printables, but also two ambient audio tracks that I created with the help of AI music tools, carefully designed to match the atmosphere and aesthetic of that particular table.
Whether it's a gothic library, a fairy woodland corner, an alchemist's workshop, or a vampire's study, the music is there to help bring the world to life and make the creative experience feel more complete.
Dark Jazz Radio often explores noir, night music, loneliness, beauty and shadow. Do you feel connected to nocturnal creativity, creating at night, or working in a certain kind of silence?
Absolutely! I often find inspiration at night, when the world becomes still and distractions fade away. There is something incredibly calming about that silence.
I've always loved the quiet of snowy landscapes, the peaceful atmosphere of old cemeteries, and the stillness that comes after dark. Rather than feeling lonely to me, these places often feel reflective, comforting and full of stories waiting to be imagined.
Interestingly, those are also the places where I can almost hear the music that inspires me most — dark jazz, noir soundscapes, melancholic piano melodies and atmospheric night music. That kind of music perfectly captures the beauty, mystery and gentle solitude that I try to express through my work.
Many of my ideas are born in those quiet moments. For me, creativity often begins when the world becomes quieter and there is space to listen to my imagination.
What has opening an Etsy shop taught you about independent creativity?
Opening an Etsy shop has taught me that creativity isn't just something I enjoy — it's something I genuinely need. As a neurodivergent person with AuDHD, creating has always been one of the ways I make sense of the world, process emotions and channel my endless curiosity and imagination.
Running The Whimsical Scriptorium has shown me that independent creativity isn't about following trends or fitting into expectations. It's about building something authentic that reflects who you are and sharing it with people who connect with it.
It has also taught me to trust my own vision. One of the best examples of that is Lunette, the sweet gothic doll who slowly grew into the heart of her own little universe. Like me, she is neurodivergent, she experiences the world a little differently. She rarely looks directly at the viewer, preferring to observe the world in her own quiet way. Accompanied by her faithful little bat, she feels most at home among moonlit libraries, forgotten cemeteries and places filled with stories and wonder.
Through Lunette, I've been able to celebrate sensitivity, imagination and the beauty of seeing the world from a different perspective.
Perhaps the most important lesson is that creativity becomes even more meaningful when it helps others find comfort, inspiration, or a moment of escape in their own lives.
What kind of emotional reaction do you hope someone has when they print one of your pages and places it in their journal, room or creative space?
Whether someone uses my printables in a journal, a scrapbook, as wall art, or even prints them on everyday objects like mugs, notebooks, phone cases, or other creative projects, I hope they feel a connection to the world behind them.
More than anything, I hope they experience a moment of comfort, inspiration and gentle escape. Life can often feel busy, overwhelming and demanding, and I love the idea that one of my creations might help someone slow down for a little while, spark their imagination, or simply make their creative space feel a little more magical.
I often think of my printables as small doorways into different worlds. Whether it's a moonlit library, a gothic manor, an enchanted forest, or one of Lunette's quiet adventures, I hope each design invites people to dream, explore and tell their own stories.
If one of my creations makes someone smile, feel inspired, find comfort, or even feel understood, then I consider that the greatest success. I hope they feel as though they've brought a small piece of another world into their own — one filled with beauty, wonder, creativity and a little bit of magic.
Finally, if The Whimsical Scriptorium were a room hidden inside an old library, what would we find inside?
I imagine it would be a hidden room illuminated by candlelight and moonlight, tucked away between shelves of old books and forgotten stories. There would be journals waiting to be filled, curious artifacts collected from imaginary worlds, celestial maps, bottles of ink, dried flowers pressed between pages, and perhaps a few friendly bats resting in the shadows.
You would probably hear distant music drifting through the room — dark jazz, soft piano melodies, and the gentle sound of rain against old windows. Somewhere in a cozy corner, a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate would be waiting beside an open journal.
And if you stayed long enough, you might catch a glimpse of Lunette wandering quietly between the shelves with her little bat companion, searching for forgotten stories and new adventures.
Most of all, I hope it would feel like a place where imagination is always welcome — a place where people can slow down, dream, create and perhaps leave carrying a little more wonder than they arrived with.
